My 1993 135 hp outboard starter cuts out and sounds like it's just spinning when I go to start it. This happens about half the time. Any remedy for this or does the starter need replacement? Thanks.

Re: Mercury Outboard Starter Problem

Hi,<br />I've got the same problem with my 2+2 115 Mercury. Last trip out, most times I tried to start it the strater just spinned without the gear kicking up to engage the flywheel. The starter gear sticks in the bottom position. I was able to release it by popping it a couple times with a screwdriver and then was able to start the engine. At home I used degreaser/cleaner and then lubricant but it still sticks most every time. What's the next thing to try?
