Mercury Outboard rebuild

My friend has a 1989 XR4 Black Max 150HP Mercury outboard. He needs to rebuild it. Another fellow said that it was a relatively simple matter to rebuild it so that it would have 200 or 225 HP, new jets, etc.<br /><br />Is this true? I'm clueless.<br /><br /> <br /><br />------------------<br />Craig

Yeah, jets, carbs, pistons, exhaust tuner down into the leg and he'll probably need to have the powerhead reported so it can breathe with the bigger exhaust and carbs. Should be able to do it for about 8000. Does this sound like a good deal?? Tell him to go buy a 200 if he wants 200hp.

I'm with Dunk....if it was a simple matter the factory woulda done it.....fix it or sell it the way it is....
