Looking for any 2007 Mercury Outboard Owners with 90 HP EFI 4 Stroke,
CHECK YOUR OIL NOW,
I found an extra quart of oil in the engine one time and an extra 2 quarts on another occasion.
This is the letter I sent to Mercury and the response:
Dear Mercury
We are life long Mercury owners, we grew up with Mercury products. Honestly, with what little experience we had with other brands we had the idea that there were two types of boat engines, Mercury and Junkers, gentlemen you are quickly joining your competition. With your serial number "XXXXXXXX" you can see what we're up against. With the arrogance of your last telephone teck, it is obvious that we are not being listened to. I bought a new engine with the plan of it lasting forever and your onsite tech tells me that they are built to allow some gas into the oil??? BULL, I know better. This was at least better than the first tech who said he could fix it in 15 min by changing the diaphragm in the fuel pump, I didn't take time to see how long it had been since Mercury had used a mechanical fuel pump on the larger outboard engines. This should have given us a hint as to the type "Certified Techs" that you employ. Here's where we are, I believe you owe me a new engine and my attorney agrees. He's of course paid by the hour and very interested in looking into a class action suit. I just want my motor replaced with a "new one" as I purchased, that don't get gas in the oil. I told the last person I want to hear from my boat by last Friday, that passed with no call or contact in any way. Not to mention my gas tank is 3 feet from my engine which will no doubt come apart with the Gas/Oil running through it and when it does, the 24 gallons of gas sitting beside could generate a death trap for my family.
Please take me serious as I assure you I have the time and money to take this to court.
This is the response:
Mr. Luffman,
Thank you for your email, we appreciate the opportunity to respond.
As a world leader in the manufacture of marine products, we realize a great deal of our success is built upon customer satisfaction, and to promote this, we back our products with a warranty. As you are aware, our engine came with a three (3) year warranty from the date of original sale. Warranty covers manufacturing defects in material or workmanship. As a customer relations gesture, Mercury has already covered replacement of the bottom cowl of this engine.
All four stroke engines have the capability of 'making oil', especially if the thermostat is not allowing the engine to reach operating temperature. All four stroke engines can make up to an additional 12% oil, the rest will be burned off.

Anyone with this engine please check your oil and as this list grows we may be able to get something done. I don't plan on keeping a product that keeps gas in the oil.
