Mercury outboard, Evinrude controls?

I just got ahold of a 1990 Nitro bass boat. The stock evinrude outboard blew and is long gone, but the stock controls remain. The boat came with a Mercury Black Max 150hp, not installed. I haven't pulled the serial # yet to see the model year, the guy I got it from said he was told it was an 82 but it looks to me like it could be a bit older, maybe even 78 or 79?

Anyways, I have the controls for the Merc, but I was wondering is there any way to adapt the stock controls on the boat to work with the Merc? I know at the least I can mount the Merc's controls in the boat and go that route, but it would be nice to keep the stock look if possible.

Thanks...

Use the Merc controls. The Evinrude controls won't adapt.

Ok that's what I'll do...just thought I'd ask if there was a simple adapter or something, guess not. I should at least be able to get the tach and spedo to hook up, right? Also, how about the steering? I know the cables that are hooked up to the merc are longer and the ones in my boat are already the right size, should those work?

I still haven't gotten a chance to look at everything, and also once I get a minute to pull the model # I'm going to order a book for it, which should help.

thanks for the response
