I was looking at getting a boat with a Optimax 75 but i started hearing about problems with the injectors and the motor having to be in the shop to much for mechanical problems. Is this stuff true, is the maintance frequent on these compared to a regular carb engine? I want something that i can handle the maintance on myself. Any comments on any problems with the optimax motors? Would i be better off with a 50hp or 90hp carb engine?

Re: Mercury optimax injectors?

It is very difficult on any fuel injected engine for a owner to much more than lubricate it and change filters

The 75 Optimax is one of the most reliable engines you will ever own, no issues with any as long as you use good, fresh fuel and opti oil(s)
