I have a1998 OmniMax 225X DFI. Runs great BUT....I will be running at 5,000 RPM and all is going well....then without warning, the engine coughs and drops to idle like it is running out of fuel. I go back to neutral, bring it back up and it runs fine again. It might run for 2 minutes or 10 minutes before repeating that little trick.

Anyone have any ideas on what is wrong?

Not familiar with your engine but on most any engine, if you suspect a fuel supply issure, look at the bulb then pump it up like when priming the engine for starting.

If the bulb is collapsed flat, it is sucking against a sealed tank. You have an obstruction between the bulb and the interior of the tank including a tank vent that is not venting.

If it is in the usual shape, then when you get the problem pump the bulb a few times in fast order. If the engine recovers look at your fuel distribution in the engine like starting with a new fuel pump kit.

Other thing is that if you have carbs then you could have some foreign object clogging a high speed jet in one of your carbs and it is floating around causing the intermittent problem.

Check the VST float if sticking its not letting fuel in or electric fuel pump is failing or bad connection. Also check the battery connections and alternator output.
