Need some opinions please. I have an '88 60hp Mercury. I have seen the Seloc manual advertised here on this site. I have also heard these manuals were so so. Does Mercury sell a manual? Are there manuals other than Seloc and if so how do they compare and where can they be purchased? Thanks

Re: Mercury Motor Manual

There are Haynes manuals, maybe just for cars, don't rember, also Clymer and yes Mercury does sell manuals, but they are expensive. I guess it would depend on what you want to do. The major problem with Clymer & Seloc manual are the number of engines they cover, they seem to cover the whole gammit. My Mercury manual for my 89 200 hp, specifies the serial numbers covered and are for that particular motor only.

Yes, you can get a factory manual for your '88 Merc. There are many on-line sources. I've bought factory Merc manuals from oldmercs.com and OMC and Merc manuals from maxrules.com. Both are excellent companies. On-line ordering is simple, but a phone call to either (have your serial number ready) will make it very easy to get the right one. They aren't exactly cheap though! Ebay is another good source if you know what you're looking for.

I have Seloc and factory manuals for both my '74 Mercury and my '82 Johnson. It's nice to have both, but if I were to have one, it would be the factory manual.

Check ebay. I saw factory manuals up for auction last night. You can also check Mercury Parts Express. They should also have it. Get your serial number for the correct manual.
