Mercury lower unit seal replacement?

I have a 2001 mercury 90hp 3cyl 2 stroke outboard. Noticed gear oil dripping out of exhaust and also seen there had been some oil residue on the water intake holes. So got a seal kit. What's the best way to change seal on the shift shaft? And any other tips for replacing seals?

Also I read about putting locktite on the outer edges of seals?

Get a manual. Manual recommends red locktite for what you say as I recall. I usually use blue which is repairable without heat and a lot less work to get undone and holds good enough for most applications where required....usually screws and bolt-nut interfaces.
