mercury lifting eye?

hi guys,
i need a way to lift my mercury 150. i dont have a mercury lifting ring to screw in flywheel. i was thinking ofbuying a pipe plug big enough to screw into the flywheel and then drilling a hole in the plug to slip a ring of somesort to lift the engine. would this work? any ideas is apprecited.

No, the threads are not pipe size but NF so they would pull out and besides thats the place that the flywheel is pulled from, bite the bullet and go to eBay and you will find some expensive ones.

remove the fly wheel nut and see what thread the crank shaft is then buy (2) nuts the same thread and weld them together one vertical & one horzontal and screw the one nut onto the crank shaft and the other nut to your block in tackle it works great thats what I use and the cost is under 10 bucks. Bob

OK well I found waiting for an answer and the UPS guy to deliver the part is a waste of time.....throwing caution to the wind I did this instead and was able to lift my 150. hopefully this helps someone in the future.

FYI Harbor Freight has their engine lifts on sale for $129

Also I used the "how to build Engine Stand" thread as a reference (modified for bigger motor) and here is the finish results...

I got one down at my local boat shop for $32.00, it lifts anything from a 30hp to a 250. They had it in stock and they're a small shop.
