I have a 2006? 4hp 4-stroke Mercury kicker that I'm scheming to attach a steering rod to from my alpha one.

Does anyone know what these two holes are? I couldn't tell if they are threaded, and I'm having a hard time finding anything out online. Mercury's site keeps crashing when I try to grab the manual.

I'm trying to decide if these would be a viable attachment point for a bracket and those quick connect rod kits.

Thanks for looking.

Running another Steering Cable from the Helm would be a better and likely safer way to steer the kicker, as it then wouldn't matter what the Outdrive was tilted at.

Those holes are exhaust pressure relief ports. AIDS in startups and idle.

The steering rod kits usually come with a metal strap clamp that wraps around the motor.

There sure isn't much info out there for us frugal folks with Mercruiser sterndrive guys trying to steer a kicker, so here is mine for posterity.
A couple of custom brackets out of SS, some hose clamps, heat shrink and and a generic outboard steering linkage kit.

Working great so far.
Thanks again to roscoe for answering the question asked succinctly.

Thanks for posting the picture. I'm trying to rig up something as well for use if my main motor conks out.
Do you get a full range of motion left to right on the kicker?
It looks like you keep the stern drive in the down position, do the skegs on both motors stay in alignment when turning left to right?
