mercury inline six 2 coils, 1 distributor -110 or 115hp?

helo to all i am pretty much new member since dec 2008, posted some help and so far vice admiral has been so very helpful.

this is my case scenario

i bought a boat from this guy 3 mos. ago a 1988 EBBtide fiberglass open bow
and a 1978 trailer. i assumed it is a 1988 mercury motor too for what he said
but i look at the mounting and the holes for the original motor is there so i am very sure the motor has been replaced and doesnt look like close to 1988 at all. i cant get hold of him since i mentioned to him about the year of the motor.

heres a number i saw on the head 836-1852, i looked up at mercury and nothing close to that number at all.

it is an inline six for sure it has 6 plugs inline, with three carbs, aside from 3 carbs, it has 2 coils, 1 distributor with 2 wires coming from it, either a rectifier with 3 wires connected to it and i dont see no switch box at all.

so im not sure if this is a 90hp- 100hp - 110hp or 115hp? i purchased the book for it and waiting to arrive, hope its the right one

any help or suggestion is highly appreciated,

2 coils, 1 distributer = 110 hp 1966-67 year

thanks bullet but what do you mean by trim it out?

and does this engine have switch box on them

i saw a rectangle box with 2 yellow wires on each end and red wire to the middle connected to it. is this the swicth box or rectifier?

Your engine has a standard ign. system and no switch box, thats the rectifier that your looking at.

thank you for the info .

i found the plate for the serial but the numbers are scrapped off, just

few that i can recognize. i have to believe my motor is either a 66 or 67

110 hp not 115hp.

Look on the top of the block above the exhaust cover it should be stampd there
