Hello, l have a problem with my mercury 1991 classic 40hp merc,its starts 1st time,then leave it running for 15 mins,turn engine off,then try and restart and nothink happens just makes a crackling noise at the ignition then faids away, and no power at all at the ignition.is there anybody out there what has had this problem,batterys all good and no corrision on battery lugs.

Crackling noise smells of high voltage arcing. High voltage arcing would be associated with the coil and output wiring to the spark plugs. Not familiar with that ignition system. I think it runs a magneto and I am not familiar with them enough to be of any help. But crackling is normally high voltage problems.

thanks for the help, will have to try that and find if thats the problem
