Mercury I/0 prop annode question

Have a alpha 1 sterndrive I/0 on a 5.7 went to a different size prop question how much space between prop and anode? do you really need one?

Not sure about the spacing . . . you may just have to try it and see. Was there one on it before the new prop?

As to if you really need it . . . salt water=yes . . . fresh water=probably . . . trailered in fresh=probably not

There are what I call "button anodes" available that eliminate clearance issues.

My Alpha 1 had a flat anode installed. The prop would not have fit with the trim tab style anode.

Not sure which vintage of alpha 1 we are talking about . . . or are we talking about prop shaft anode or ventilation plate anode . . . :noidea: Help us out with a little more info OP . . .

There is an offset trim tab for props that have more cup.

There is also one called a performance trim tab which is also offset but doesn't help much with steering since it is so small.

Ist generation alpha 1 1987, thanks for the imput yes used in salt water mainly probably will go with a smaller one or a flat one I was told they also work somewhat as a rudder and help if the boat list to one side.

Also there is a science part of all of it proper cavatation and not to burn the prop damage the cavatation plate etc;

It's to c0nteract prop torque,i run a flat one with a 21x14 4 blade on a bayliner 215 5.7l hydralic steering works well
