Hey guys,

So ever since I have owned my boat everytime I go to put it into reverse it does a tiny grind but also its quite hard to put into reverse. You have to give it a solid pull to get it into get. My other boat I had a few years ago with a 50hp Johnson did the same thing so I figured it was normal (I'm still quite new to boating).

I've searched the forums and google for the last few days and haven't found to much information or alot of it doesn't make sense.

So from what I have read it sounds like it would be just the gear linkage that needs to be adjusted? Does that sound correct?
Also how would one go about adjusting it? Pictures on how to do it would be wicked also. I'm a pictures kinda guy for fixing stuff haha

Thanks guys

Am a newbie to but have same 120. Mines a 97. I'm not sure if i'm any help at all but can tell ya what mine does. Its in mint condition with very low miles. Its always been hard to put in gear without cuting off. Owners manual says more or less "shift fast". Im second owner 1st had same thing since bought in 97.He had same grind but not a problem. It still does same. Sorry not much help but have found its normal. Its not grinding up the motor. Am sure a pro here will give better advice. For me and what i know about my 120. Shift fast my friend;)

If you can override the grind with a little more force and get a clunk, harley style, all is normal. Slow shifting with a lot of grind will round dog ears and gears.
