I will be repowering my boat within the next year or so. I will be looking for a pair of 200-225hp motors. I am not sure that I trust Evinrude, yet, am thinking about the Optimax and have heard good things about the Yamahas.

I would like good, honest and informed answers concerning the reliability of the engines. My boat is currently powered by a pair of Mercury 150 hp carberated motors. I would like the Ficht or Optimax for the economy, lack of smoke and east of starting.

What do you think

Howdy, Taylor.

Hmmm. In your position I would be thinking about Honda or Yammy 4 strokes.

Of the three you list, Yamaha is the only one about whose DFI system I haven't heard a single complaint.

It may be rare occasions, but I have heard some terrifying tales about Optimax and Ficht.

You didn't mention Suzuki. Like the Yammy, you don't hear about DFI Suzis blowing up.

If I were going to limit myself to DFI 2 strokes, it would be Suzi (I have a great dealer) or Yammy (everyone has great dealers).

Good luck. :)
