I have a Model 30 Kiefhaefer Corp. Mercury with Serial #1084198 Is there anyone out there that can give some me information on it. I would like to get some kind of a manual for it.
Hi 1611,
The Mark 30 is a great old motor. Lots of kick in a very compact package! You can get a manual and just about anything else you'll ever need for it from Grubb's Marine (www.oldmercs.com).

The weak point on the Mark 30 was the lower unit, as it was more or less the lower unit off their 10/16/18 series with a beefier driveshaft. The gears were the same and they were borderline able to handle the power of the 4-cylinder 30. Add in a little abuse via a dinged prop or a little water in the housing and you've got problems. Keep after the unit by checking the gear lube frequently.

I would change out the water pump impeller as a matter of course, following the directions in the 1965 and prior manual from Mercury (Grubbs has it). The impeller is cheap insurance.

- Scott (www.pfs-ware.com/smith)
Hey,
Thanks bunches, it looks like a good winter time procect to restore. I seems to be in good condition as far as appearence and the lower unit is still in tact
