Hi guys, new here and somewhat new to boats so be easy please.
I have a 1984 Mercury black max 150hp that runs great at high speeds but has a couple issues... Idle is a little rough, not terrible but a little rough and the real concern is that it dies often if you try to give it just a little gas when you put into gear... You basically have to let it idle for a minute and then give it a lot of gas... This is problematic at times like when trying to dock. I am guessing maybe adjust idle? Or fuel filter? Or carb cleaning? Or all the above? I am not familiar with boat motors - decent with land vehicles though. Just wondering if this rings a bell with anyone before I start randomly doing things. This motor is new to me and looks like it hasn't been serviced in a while (got it cheap). Wasn't sure if I should just take it in for tune up or what. In north Texas if anyone can recommend anyone. Sorry for long post. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!
