Is there a way to set the throttle to warm up when you first start a outboard with mercury control’s?
On my older Johnson that was a warm up lever but does not seem to be anything like that on the mercury controls for my ’89 90hp.. any suggestions?

lake_time_2

Sometimes on the mercs, you need to pull out on the control handle while in neutral to achive fast idle. It may be stiff to pull if it has not been done in a while.

Re: mercury controls? warm up lever ??

I have had a lot of Mercs and only on a couple of their control models do they offer the warm up leaver. Mine does not have it so I have to push in the button to get neutral and then advance the throttle slightly. In an ideal situation if you choke it just right, then start it in neutral it will actually stay running. It took hours, days to get mime to do this. They should have had the warm up leaver on all models but they did not.

If you have QuickSilver controls, there is a button on the side of the control housing. Right at the base of the shift lever, in the center that it pivots around, big button with the name on it.

You push it in, then push the throttle forward to increase idle speed. Pushing this button allows you to move the throttle without the engine shifting into gear.

Sometimes the old stuff is better than the new. I've been told that a lot of after market controls have all the features we need, such as a warm up lever, but I have not much experience in matching them up. Anybody know what fits these Mercs?
