Mercury Controller issue

Hullo all. I bought a Mercury Controller for my '86 75hp Merc that looks like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercury-Side-Mount-Remote-Control-15ft-881170A15_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ31283QQihZ005QQitemZ150170439010QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Only thing is, the original one I have looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Controls-Throttle-Shift-Box-Mercury-1980s-Quicksilver_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ111124QQihZ007QQitemZ170159251481QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW only with the tilt/trim (couldn't find one with T/T on ebay!!).

Anyway, it has the same 8 pin harness plug, and I got 'er all hooked up and the tilt and trim worked great, but I got no ignition. The choke (push to choke) clicked just fine, but it would not engage the starter. Is there something just slightly different between the two controllers that I'm missing, or might I have "undone" something when I was replacing the tilt/trim switch? Should the newer one just plug and play?

Re: Mercury Controller issue

Well, y'all are too slow. I fixed it myself. After I got a little more advice from a couple of folks, I found out that it should work, but it didn't. So I went back out, fiddled with it some more, then finally broke down and took the controller apart. At first I only took the the top part of the back off, and everything looked fine. Then I took the bottom part off, and there in the bottom was two little red pieces of plastic. I surmised that these must have something to do with the little black piece with a red "bottom" to it. Well, this turned out to be the neutral start switch (or whatever you call it), and the corner broke off and the little push button thing was not engaging this while in neutral. So, a little super glue for now, until I can get around to getting another one, and I'm good to go.
