If you had a choice between a new Mercury 90 Classic or a 115 Classic to push a 18ft Bayliner bass boat what would you choose? I had a 1987 Force 125 that is toast (scored cylinder) and the dealer said the 90 would be about the same performance. Does anyone need a 125 Force parts motor?

I'd go for the 115. You may never need the extra horse power, but the one time you do need it, you'll curse and kick yourself for not getting it. My moto is to get as close as possible to the max recomended hp of the boat, and maybe even go a little further.

Craig

Merc140 is right. Your boat is rated to handle up to 150hp. I don't think you'll be satisfied with a 90hp. motor on it. Which cylinder is gone and will it still run? The reason I ask is that I got the same year boat and motor with the same problem except that mine won't even start. Is your boat a single consol or double. And you also only live 30 miles away. Small world isn't it? Maybe we can get a discount if we buy two. This is a little strange. But if this is legit I would put the 125 Classic on the boat. Hell its only $300.00 more then the 115. Let me know which one you go with and also who you end up getting it from. Also did the dealer you talk to say if they can use the same cables or do you have to buy all new controls? I guess I haven't asked that ? yet and I'm sure that's 'probably another nice little chunk of change. By the way whats your e-mail address.
:)

One Last Cast,
The #2 cylinder is scored and the piston had a hole in it. It ran real good until WBM(in Waterloo) took it apart, it's still there apart I had done a compression check and found the bad cylinder. They do charge about $200 for new controls. I'm going to price the 125 today. my e-mail address is garrypeg@aol.com. Thanks for your opinions. Garry
