Mercury change out

I have a 1999 Force 40 that seems to always be needing something. A local shop has a 2002 Mercury 40 that had the driveshaft broke on it. He has the motor without the lower unit for $1000.00. It looks like my lower unit would hook up and the connections look the same. Part of the drive shaft is still broke of in the motor. I have thought about the motor for 2 days. Is this reasonable or should I forget about it? Are there any red flags that should be popping out at me?

Thanks.

Re: Mercury change out

$1000 bucks seems a big high. You can get one for less than half that price on E-bay or Craigslist.

Re: Mercury change out

something went seriously wrong to break the driveshaft, and get it stuck.
I would walk away from it unless it is running, with your lower installed on it. And the engine checks out.
