Hi, I have a Mercury Black Max outboard 175hp with a Snapped Gear Shifter (Top Shift which connects to the lower gear). The section that snapped is the about 2 inch from the bottom of the top rod, what joins to the bottom gear unit. I want to take of the top bottom housing cover so I get access to weld the snapped section back on. Can you please advice how to get the housing off. Just confirming the bottom leg is ok, it is the top section of the gear shift which is snapped which connects to the engine. Regards. Thanks in advance.

Take cables loose, take a roll pin punch and drive out pin holding shaft in shifter yoke, weld and replace.

Thanks agian, do I need to take off the whole power head and mid section. I just want to get access to the bottom 2 cm/ 1 inch of the rod/shaft shifter. Can I just take off the housing of the mide section, I can almost access/see the area I wish to weld.

I have attached the photo of the lower joint which snapped off. I am in Sydney Australia, so getting a replacement rod will take weeks, so I will just weld it.

there is an "arm" that attaches to tha top of tha rod right under tha adapter plate.. it is attached to tha rod with tha "roll pin" faz is refering to... removing that pin and arm is tha only way ya gonna get tha rod out without pullin' tha powerhead...................
