Mercury 9.9 or 15 HP serial # 0D290497

This motor has a 9.9 cowl . Previous owner says it is a 15 HP. The sticker on the bracket is missing or illegible , the aluminum plug on the powerhead has this serial number D290497 . When looking up the serial number both the 9.9 and 15 HP come up. This motor is a tiller, manual start short shaft. From what I make out and from the serial number chart this motor is a 15hp MH . If it were a 9.9 it would be the 9.9 ELRC , electric start, remote. Is that correct?
Odd how the serial numbers overlap.

Yes it is but if you tell the forum whats wrong with your motor the forum will fix your motor, you showed up here for a reason.

Your serial number is coming up as an 1994 MERCURY 15-HP (MH) Model Number 1015201PD.... The parts catalog for yours and near similar engine models/Parts covers them all which is the 6/8/SAILMATE 9.9/SAILPOWER 15 H.P. engine models. Tom and Fun Times , Thank you for your replies. Usual issues upon buying a used motor. Carbon rebuild, link and sync, impeller act. I really just wanted to verify that the motor was indeed a 15 Hp not a 9.9. I was a bit baffled by the way the serial numbers overlapped. I now have a better understanding . Perhaps I should have posted in Non Repair.
