hi, My 9,9 big foot doesn 't start . I have tried to spray the starter inside the cylinders but nothing .
Polishing the carburetor , I have found it as in the pic : I think some piece is lost , compared to the exploded view. Any suggest?

Yes you are missing The accel pump plunger, springs and bottom case. There are also some tiny o-ring and stuff you probably can't get from Mercury. I got my O-rings from Tohatsu, they may have the individual parts you need. My concern is what ELSE IS MESSED UP, and by who? the motor should fire if you spray gas in the carb. It will run without the accel pump but there will be some leakage. I think you have a motor that was worked on by a hacker. You need to take it to a good mechanic that is familiar with the Tohatsu/Mercury. It could be simple... or not. A 15hp carb is about $275 from Mercury and may be the cheapest way out. If you had all the parts it should take less than an hour to assemble it, but what if you have other problems? How did you get this motor? The carb kit doesn't have accel pump parts, they have to be ordered separately. The carb kit is about $50.

thanks Star, my engine ( second hand ) has worked fine until it started only at high rpm . Then nothing . I think is an electrical problem , cause the starter spray in the cylinder doesn t make any fire .but I' ll buy the lost pieces of the carb for sure
ciao Stefano

Time to buy some carb soak (berrymans from walmart.) This is a common problem when Idle circuit passages get cloged with gunk. You must soak it for two or more hours. After you remove all rubber and plastic parts. Are you sure you didn't push the toggle switch to turn off the spark!!! or some kind of interlock so you don't start in gear. That spark system hasn't had a history of failure! Ground two spark plugs to the head and pull her over both plugs fire at the same time What is called wasted spark system. Only the cylinder that is on the compression stroke is going to fire. there are manuals on line that give you the resistance measurements of the main components. Walmart has a great DVM for $19. You might as well get educated about this motor, I think it is a good little engine

Most remote interlocks don't let the solenoid energize to crank the starter motor. A kill switch or key shorts your spark to ground so the engine won't even see a spark. You really can't put gas or starter fluid in the cylinder by the time you put the plugs in it has evaporated!!! If You open the choke, (push it in) open the throttle about 1/4 and crank it with the starter fluid nozzle in the intake it should fire without gas in the carb. Did you ground a plug to see if you have any spark. Be sure you gapped the plugs at .035 in. Those coils don't jump more than 1/16 of an inch. I think you will have a problem getting all those parts because Mercury will not sell all the parts individually, trust me I know!!!!! It will run without the accel parts, but when you poke it open quickly it will stutter and maybe even die as air rushes in. If you open slowly there will be just a slight hesitation. What part of the world are you in?

The oil pressure switch will not keep the motor from starting, but it will not let it rev over 2000 rpm
