I have a Mercury 9.8 in the early 80's. It has over heated because the impeller was bad. I fix the impeller and now is does not run unless the choke is on. Then when it shuts down there is water coming out of the carb. Is it junk or something easy to fix. Thanks

If you have water coming out of the carb you have water in your carb and in your gas. Time to clean things up and get some new gas/oil mix.

Running only with the choke on can be caused by a massive intake air leak sucking air and leaning the mixture that only with the choke can enough fuel get in for the motor to run.

I would need to look at the parts views for the motor to refresh my memory. Too many motors, too many years. I might be getting old(er).
