Can anybody tell me the year possibly by looking at this motor? No serial number and would like to start ordering parts and doing some testing. Thanks!.

1973-4; the serial Nr. should be in that space beside the troll lever; it looks like it's been scratched off in the photo. The fuel line is going directly into a filter on the side of the carb ( someone posted that this piece is NLA) and the fuel line might break it - originally there was a bayonet fitting there.

Do a good evaluation of this motor before spending beer tokens on parts.---What parts are you looking for ?

Yeah it's just a straight shot to the carb. Bought this like 20 years ago. It always had trouble. My brother did the impeller, thenScreenshot_20220516-170433_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220516-170436_Gallery.jpg years later my sister did the carb. Now it's been sitting for a good 6-7 years.

I did a compression test on both cylinders and got 95-96.. My plan was to get a rebuild kit for the carb and do the bottom end oil..Just rewired it. It was a mess. Broken wiring all the way up to the stator.Screenshot_20220516-165405_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220516-170014_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220516-170118_Gallery.jpg

When I got it, buddy told me it was a 1886 but even video I watch, looks like a 71, 72 or 73. Except for the different carb, everything looks almost identical.

That is what they call a ----phasemaker ----Ignition system.----Do you have spark that jumps a gap of at least 5/16" on both leads.-----Fuel pump is on the side of the carburetor.

Also, yes there was a bayonet that I switched out when I bought a new primer bulb & line. Now I just bought a new bulb and line but the fitting is leaking so, I'll need to replace the fittings tomorrow.

No fuel pump. Just a 2 part block I removed yesterday and cleaned. Cork and then a super fine screen. 4 Flat head screws. Also I put new plugs in and tried testing spark myself. Looked nice and dark blue but, seeing I was doing it myself, obviously it was super difficult. Sparked only 1/2 the time. (need a helper) or I'm going to purchase a spark tester. 20220516_172725.jpg

Ok if that's what the fuel filter is then , Yes lol.. I can rebuild a truck or car engine but when it comes to outboards, I know very little.

If I could find out the year, then I can purchase a manual and check specs. etc. and order in parts. I'm like 30 mins from Toronto Canada. Little hard finding any info in the city.

Do you have a manual? Here are the fuel pump instructions - as I stated before 1973-1974 as it says Mercury Marine not Kiekhaefer Mercury (1972).

Hey guy's.
Finally got abit of time to work on the motor. I'm getting a really weak, and most of the time "no spark" on both plugs. When I purchased the new wiring, I made sure it was marine-grade from a marine parts store. Now after closer inspection, the old wire had about 40 strands where the new wire looks to be doubled that. That shouldn't be the problem right? Also, does anyone have specs on the ohms for the coils/plug wires etc.?..I'm guessing either the plug wires, both coils or even both condenser have a problem, or I need to set the points? Been sitting so long, I Don't know.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also my son said he was spinning the prop while in the shop, I just can't remember if I had the flywheel off at the time. I'm assuming he could have messed up the timing? I'll bury him and the motor together!

I think it only has 1 condenser.--Clean and set those " phase maker " points as new ones take a lot of beer tokens.--Nobody fixes anything in Toronto.----They just buy new stuff I think.
