I own a 2008 Tohatsu (maker of the small Merc 4-strokes), and it's shift coupler uses small rolled drift pins. I used a drift pin punch to remove just one of the pins.
I wish my coupler had pins in it, mine is threaded. Can I get it hooked back up to the shifter cam lever by remove the grommet on the bottom of the power unit?
Sorry but I don't have a clue on how to repair your's then.
If nobody here has your same year model engine, then you might need to locate a service manual.
Good luck, with your wierd linkage. Usually a person just needs to back-off the lock-nut, then twist the longer coupler until it's free.
