2006 Mercury 8 hp 4 stroke, SN. 1B010732, was running only with choke on, fuel pump working great. Cleaned carburetor with all new gaskets, O-rings, etc, float and float valve. Now idles fine in gear and runs perfect through all speeds, but when shifted to neutral idle surges it only has the surge at or near idle. Surges fairly high when first shifted to neutral, then calms down considerably after a few seconds at idle in neutral. Idle speed in gear is at factory specs, tried adjusting idle speed small amounts both directions thinking maybe it was simply a maladjusted base idle speed but alas to no avail. . Is this normal? Perhaps a computerized idle compensator thing?
