Mercury 800 what year?

Hi all.
New to the forum, just finding my way around
I recently bought a boat with a mercury outboard on her.
"Mercury 800". 80hp, power trim, 4 cyl, 2 cycle. Serial # is 8050558
I looked at a couple of places where you can access charts.
All I could see was that in 1983, for 4 cylinder 80hp motors, the serial numbers started at 6232941 - UP.
So, I'm not sure if it's '83, '84?
I'm in Australia, if that helps.
The motor etc is black, and light blue stripes. ( couldn't upload pictures )

You are correct, it doesn't look like an american or canadian-built motor. Maybe it is Belgian? Carholme will likely chime in. He has lots of that info....

The s/ns which begine with 8 are Australian built and they are the most difficult to find. I finally gave up searching for a registry after several emails to dealers and Mercury Australia without one response. The best you can do is contact your local dealer and see if they will help.
