mercury 7.5 outboard - cannot determine exact year

Hi Everyone :

I have a mercury 7.5 outboard motor and I think the year is 1985, but I need the exact year to order some seals. The serial number for the engine is 7077090, but this revealed no year number in my searches. But, I recorded a part numbes for a shift lever and a coil cover, and this did reveal search hits in parts catalogues, but I could not do a reverse lookup for the year number. Anyhow here are the part numbers :


coil cover - 66355
Shift lever - 74350

and look up the year 1976. I found that my switchbox serial number matched the part number on the web site.

For anyone else with the same issue of determining the year, write down some serial numbers off some parts from your motor and search through the web site above for a few year numbers and try to match the part number to the page of a certain year number. This is how you will get your year number.
