Mercury 6hp with a 8hp carb?

I have a 1987 Mercury 6hp and was wondering if a carb from a 1989 8hp will work?

Once you get it jetted and adjusted to run right you probably won't notice any difference. That is a 33% difference you are looking at, and changing the carb just isn't going to do much.

Back in those days yhey all used the same carb, with differant jetting same block, pistons, rods and crank, all engines had the same compression ratio, differant years used differant model carbs but the same venturi size. The 6 and 8 HP had no tuning pipe, the 9.9 HP had a 1" ID tube and the 15 HP was larger with a larger carb.
