OK gents, I think I need someone to confirm or refute a theory I'm developing.
2019 Mercury 60CT strapped to a SunTracker Pontoon.
When cruising at or above around 4,000 RPM, eventually an audible alarm will sound and the engine will go into "Limp" mode. Throttle down a bit and the alarm stops and operates normally. I immediately suspect a high temp condition.
There's no detailed telemetry on the gauges so I installed the Mercury Vessel View so I can "see" what my engine is doing on the fly. While replicating the condition, at 4,000 and higher RPMs the engine temp creeps up above 160°. (120° Thermostat that maintains that temp until above 2,500 - 3,000 RPM when it starts to creep)
I installed an aftermarket pump rebuild kit less than 10 hours ago. [Impeller, gaskets, bottom plate, O-rings].
Theory: Is the impeller junk?
I didn't replace the thermostat, but it operates at 120° faithfully until throttling up.
I'm OK if it's a junk impeller. It happens. But before I take it out of the lake so I can change it out, I want to be sure.
Thanks all.
