How do I get to the low speed idle jet. I have a 6 hp mercury with a newer carb.there spears to be a brass cap covering it. Should I drill a hole, put a screw in and then pull it out?

Thanks guys

Mercury made a 6 HP over a large number of years. A Serial #if it is an older Motor, and a Model #, if it is a newer one

Yeah. You need to get past that silly tamper proof cap, if you want to do that. But if it’s the engine I think it is…being a fairly new 4 stroke 1 cylinder thing. I happen to know that these things are terrible for allowing oil from the sump, to run up into the carb, when they are stored in the garage or transported in the car to the water. Even when they are sat on the correct side. It’s just what they do. Means they run terribly for a good while after starting, hard to start or don’t even start at all. Or won’t stay running. Too much oil can also have this affect too. If your oil is at or very near the top of the site glass…it’s too much, in my opinion. Fuel can also get down the way into the oil. Causing the affect to worsen.
Another thing I found on mine, was that the carb gaskets each side were terrible things and had either been not assembled right and not sealing…or similar. Check the banjo clamp that holds the carb onto the inlet on the side of the engine too. Any lack of sealing on there and it can cause issues. All of the above or any of the above conditions, then means that even if only ram for a wee while…the spark plug ends up poor and causes issues too.
