I am trying to figure out what year my motor is. I have called many marinas and they are the rudest people. It says mercury 500 so I assumed 50hp. The motor is fresh as well as the lower unit but it has sat for a few years. I took off the cover and noticed the wires from the main plug are shot, they are exposed and look like acid was on them. Also I replaced the cables and broke a plastic piece with a stopper on it. I believe the piece was attached to the top of the magneto. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
