Mercury 500 Left Hand controls

I have a 1964 50 HP Mercury 500 with right side controls. They will not convert to left hand like a lot of Johnson Motors. Can't seem to find controls that will work. Its a short shaft electric start.

Take the screw out of the handle and move it to the other side of the box and it's left hand.

Its not like a Johnson, there are no female screw holes on other side. I even tried to take everything out,and that won't work. I think its due to the age of the beast. Its covered up under the snow now, but I think the handle has a gear attached.

Check the bach side ot the box and you should find the handle screw inset in the middle of the handle shaft item 43. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...OL+(29581A10-A20)(30062A10-A20)(34215A10-A20)

I will check but if I remember right its flat solid. That link is different than my box. The box has a push in for the electric choke, shifting and starting.
