I have twin Mercury 50 4 stroke outboards, 1996.
I read in this forum that by changing a plastic carb spacer, you can uprate to 60 hp version.
Can anyone tell me the part numbers and where to get these 60 hp spacers (I live in Spain) by Mail Order.

Re: Mercury 50 to 60 4 stroke Conversion

Welcome to iboats.

I know the carburetor throats (at the venturi) are larger on the 50s than the 40s. I'd expect the same of the 60 carbs, but I don't have a catalog to check. Typically there are more differences than that. You might also get a somewhat different version of that motor in Europe than we get here in the States.

There are other things to consider. Is the boat rated for 60HP? In parts of the US it is illegal to overpower a boat under 20ft. The boat's structure might not be designed to handle the extra horsepower. I don't know about the law in Spain and I doubt the motor would fall off if it's only rated for 50. In any case, the motor should always be accurately presented. If you make it a 60, please label it a 60.
