recently serviced and ran well first time but recently had trouble with it dying when giving it revs. only thing i changed was the oil mix. Being an older motor should the fuel-oil ratio be different ?. mixed 50-1 with caltex super 6 with a little bit of a better result but problem still persists.

You forgot to give the year of the engine if it's neewer that 64 it's a 50 to1 engine it sounds just a little lean off idle.

Re: mercury 50 outboard trouble

the boat idles at about 1000rpm but dies when it sits on about 1500rpm. messed around with idle needles a bit but still dies. if you give it revs real quick it seams to have no problem. It sort of sounds like its flooding. takes a bit to get started after it stalls. any ideas?

:confused:What mix were you running before?

when is the last time the carb was cleaned?

(possibly a stuck float) does fuel continually run out of the carb when you pump the fuel bulb?

yes fuel will continue to come out of the carb when pumping the bulb

may have run bad oil through it second time checked it and it was a browny colour. could this have faulted one of the spark plugs ?

Re: mercury 50 outboard trouble

If fuel keeps running through the carbs you have a inlet needle sticking
