Perhaps an important discovery

I attached a couple of pictures of the exhaust extension plate assembly . It was about to get cleaned.

So, reminding you that you shouldn't kill the messenger, take a look at the pictures.

Is this the likely real performance problem?

Did an 84 model 50 hp a few years ago.----Exhaust was plugged about 70% and yes that is a performance problem.

I will eat that carbon if it turns out not to be the problem.

The motor runs beautifully. New sea-speed record for my Shellake Dart is 32 mph with a great hole shot.

So lessons I learned:

Occluded exhaust was not on my list of possible problems
Taking the crankcase and block apart need not be a great trauma
I really like and appreciate the Mercury Engineering that went into these incredible little motors
