Mercury 50 & 60 EFI 4 strokes

In trying to decide between these two motors, I looked at the spec and noticed that they appeared identical, except for the difference in power output. What do mercury do to the 50 to make it less powerful than the 60 (or vice versa)?

I remember seeing this question posted here before, several times. From what people were saying, the only difference is the control unit which runs over $800.

Yeah, I'd half guessed the answer. BUT. What variable does the control unit influence to change power outputs. Given that the engines are mechanicaly identical, would I be better off, in terms of engine longevity, with the 50, because it might not be running so hard, or the 60 which I might not have to run to fast to get the same speed from the boat...

go with the 60. if ya dont always need the extra 10 ponies ya dont have to use them but if ya need them they are there.
