Bought a used boat and the little motor had a weak stream. thought it was the pump so I replaced the impeller. same problem so i poked around in the discharge hole and wala it would flow and them slow way down again. repeated this a few times and determined theres something that wont pass the orifrice. Did some research on the internet and every thing I read said to remove power head to clear passages. Started thinking about a new motor and thought what the heck. I probed around in the hole and determined theres a larger cavity beyond. So I thought i would just drill the hole out, sure enough drilled into the water jacket, worked very well. I kept changing drill bits until I reached .250. In the drill shavings i noticed small black parts I think might have been the impeller from previous owner replacements. So I started er up in a bucket and wow, had a full stream, didn't know that pump could put out so much. So i then tapped the hole for a 5/16-18 set screw which i drilled a .100 hole in for the pee hole. Works great and now i can remove the screw should it become clogged again. Should you attempt take Caution not to drill too fast so that you will have definate indication of break thru (not into the cylinder either) and stay centered in the bung. I found this easier than changing the impeller. I think this will work great later on since I will be boating in very shallow water with sandy/gravelly/grassy bottom.
