I bought a tracer 2004 with a mercury 40 hp outboard two stroke electric start outboard. I put the key in and turn it a little beep then nothing?

new marine battery, new gas, two stroke oil filled.

Literally Nothing, or it cranks, but doesn't start?

Nothing - from what I have seen online the trouble is the solenoid or the starter.

Have you tried rope starting it? Or jumping the Solenoid? A defective Key Switch is another possibility

Most Mercs have the neutral switch in the control box. On thing you can try is to hold the key in the start position and rock the throttle. Often that will help the neutral switch work properly.

You can test for +12VDC on the solenoid, when the keyswitch is in the start position. Also check grounds on the solenoid. If the solenoid clicks, when the key is turned, it is likely working.

Check that kill switch is in the up position near your key there.
But I’m thinking that you may not be turning the key the full way ? Sorry to suggest it and if I’m wrong. Usually you get the beep with the first turn of the key. Then there is a further (sometimes stiffer) turn again. Make sure your idle throttle lever is all the way down and in place too. Jiggle the throttle arm about to or put her in and out of gear a couple of times, in case it’s the neutral switch contact.
If all that is well…and outwith the battery being bad…check the starter relay at the engine. Make sure you have voltage across the main earth and the starter posts too. With key in first turn. Have a helper at the helm turn the key and listen for a click at the relay too, if all else is good.
If all that ok…I’d pull the plugs and see if you can turn her over. But I think you’d know if she is trying to turn over by the noise.

I bought a new starter, and a solenoid we will see if it gets the motor to start.
Thanks for all the advice I will post the results after I install the parts.

Have actually troubleshooted the problem, or are you going to throw Parts at it, hoping that they were the Problem? That can get expensive...
