Mercury 40 Cold Start Manually

Please advise me on the following:<br />When starting manually I am forced to use a quick start spray injected into the carburator. This is only with the first start. After running a while, no problem with the starting.<br />Where and how do I check the oil level on the engine.(Gearbox)<br /><br />Regards<br />Chris<br />South Africa<br />Gauteng
