Hello,

Once again I need your help. My 1985 Mercury 35E was moving along at full throttle and suddenly dropped in speed for a few seconds before cutting out. I have been unable to start it since.

Once back to shore, someone mentioned that the problem is most likely the little "black box". It's some sort of circuit box and it's a rather common problem with this engine. Anyone have an idea what happened here?

Thank you,
Bill

Mercury calls it a switchbox. Alot of people call it the "CD" or Electronic Ignition.

First make sure your kill switch is installed (if you have one). Then with the sparkplugs removed and grounded to the block, Check for spark at the sparkplugs. If no spark come back and their are some good links on the net to check out. Or buy a service manual.
