Mercury 3.5 outboard

I have a 2008 mercury 3.5 hp outboard (longshaft) on a 9.4 dinghy. Took it out this weekend - started right away and ran great for 30 minutes. I stopped for a bit and shut the engine down. I had a very hard time starting it again. Plenty of gas left. Once I finally got it running again, it would run for a bit and then just shut down. This happened several times. Could not get it to run consistently. Thoughts?

Carb problem. Rebuild the carb. These engines have very small jets in the carb and if they sit for a long period without draining the carb they will develop problems. I had a 2 hp Honda and was very disappointed with it since it also developed starting problems. It cost me about $125 to have the carb rebuilt. Then I sold it....
