Mercury 25 hp rectifier installation

Hi folks

I am installing a rectifier into a 1999 mercury 25 hp outboard. The instructions don't seem to match my motor as far a wire color goes. I know I have to connect the rectifier to the wires from the stator. My question is do I connect to them with a T type connection and leave the 2 wires also connected to the ignition module? So I would end up with the two wires just tapped into the two stator wires.

Thanks
Eric

Oh, I forgot, this is a 6 amp rectifier, should I add a regulator as well? I got this rectifier kit from merc and they make no mention of regulator but I have no items on the boat that use electric except the fish finder.

Thanks
Eric

Not sure what you are after. Does it have charging coils? If not, I doubt you can tap into the ignition for a source.

Re: Mercury 25 hp rectifier installation

The parts dealer told me it takes electric off the stator. The instructions also show that but the wire colors are different on the motor. So I am wondering if I can tap into the stator wires to get juice out.

The instructions show the 2 wires from the stator going to a terminating block. On my motor the wires goto the ignition coil.

I think if I tap into them it will supply power to the rectifier.

Are you replacing an existing (bad rectifier), or trying to install one for charging purposes?

Does your motor have electric start (and a battery), or is it rope start only (no charging circuit)?

Hi

Thanks for responding.

It is non electric start, rope only. This is a kit I was sold to add charging capability to the motor. No Battery yet.

Sorry, I can't help, but maybe Schematic can.

This will move your post back to the top again.

See you later, and good luck.

Eric, the ignition stator is a separate piece fron the charging stator on your motor...if your motor is a manual start, it does not have the charging stator mounted under the flywheel...you need to get one and install it....the ignition stator has a BLK/white stripe and a BLK/yellow stripe wires.....the charging stator will have 2 yellow wires on it.
