Information needed...1996 T225 mercury. Used degreaser, washed, and then sprayed crc. I do this several times each year. Ran motors afterwards. One engine bogged down then quit, restarted and kept engine at idle. Then the engine quit again. Would not restart. Pulled a plug and there is no fire. What is the most likely problem? Ignition box, stator??

Something got wet that shouldn't have, your best bet is probably to just let it sit with the cover off for a day. <br />Did you cover the electrical, carb, etc...?

Re: Mercury 225 won't start

Thanks for responding. Yes, the carbs were covered. Rest of motor avalable for moisture. But this is not the first time I have rinsed the engines off and applied CRC. And the motor ran afterwards, initially with no problems...and then suddenly shut off as if I had turn the key off. And now, not to have any spark/fire going to plug makes me wonder if the ignition or stator may have expired. <br /><br />I hope you are correct about the drying efforts. Those engine have performed flawlessly since I bought them new. I fish sometimes 70 NM out...never look back. They have always started at the turn of the key.

No spark at all, is it possible that ground wire to the kill switch is broken or has pulled off/apart somewhere? <br /><br />'96 Merc., I would think that the igintion is all solid state.

I am not sure about the ignition. I need to get a manual for it. I have learn not to touch too many things under the hood. Seems like everything I touch screws up. But I appreciate your responses.
