Just purchased Mercury 200 (20 hp) outboard on a 1957 cadillac aluminum boat, would like to know what Mercury recommends for the oil/gas premix ratio and oil (obviously this is an older engine and the oils and gas have changed considerably)...the previous owner did not have owners manual and was using brand x from wally world, please advise

in my opinion I would use mercury Quicksilver oil for your motor it made by mercury for mercury. If you can't get that i would use pennzoil 2 cycle. both i would mix at 25 to 1 maybe a little heavier since it is an older motor.

this is my opinion and will not beheld responsible for anything! Good luck

Hi, Clevek.

Quicksilver is blended and bottled for Mercury by a major oil company, not "made by Mercury".

The Wal Mart Supertech is blended and bottled for Walmart by Pennzoil.

Either will do just fine in your older Merc.

24:1, 87 octane unleaded regular and ANY NMMA certified TCW-3 outboard oil would be a safe mix.

If your engine is "fully jeweled" with needle and other non-friction bearings a 50:1 mix would be even better. Someone will be along soon who knows if your engine is fully jeweled.

You need to tell us the model number of your engine to establish the year before that can be done.

Good luck. :)
