I have a question, I own a 1988 Mercury 90 hp, 3 cylinder outboard motor. I replaced the oil tank on it because the old one the float was sticking and I got an alarm beep. I refilled the oil tank and replaced all tubing and then opened the screw ontop of the oil pump and bled the air out. I took it out and it ran fine. I usually only use unreformulated fuel, but in one instance I needed gas and did not feel like driving 20 miles to buy unreformulated gas so I added about 5 gallons of reformulated gas. Again, this was only one time! Now I went out to winterize my motor and hooked up the water ears and it would not start, it would pop every now and then, but would not start, just turn over. I checked the plugs and they are fine. Im not sure where to even start looking, like I said, last time I took it out it ran fine. I drained all three carbueretors by removing the drain plug on the side of the bowls since I probably wont get around to finding the cause until the spring. Id appreciate any help with this problem. A couple things I forgot to add. I have a water seperator between the fuel tank and the fuel filter. The enricher valve also clicks when I push in my key to "choke" the engine. Also, when I pump the primer valve I do get air at times, the primer bulb gets soft at times. Fuel in tank is low and the boat is a little tilted on the trailer from the last time I put her on the trailer and did not get her level. Could these things be a problem? I mean with the boat tipped a little to one side and the water seperator??? Not sure if these could add to my problem?
