So I have a Merc 18xd we believe to be an 87... or maybe 86, not too sure. What I am sure of is that it hates me. So last spring we rebuilt the carbs new gaskets, new float, etc... ran like a top for about a week, then started to flood at full throttle. over the course of the summer it got worse and worse, to point where it wouldn't start at all. So having spent hours on in in the spring I gave up and set it to the side, and apparently set the service manual to the side as well. long story shorter its that time of year, and we tore the carb down, only to find that we don't have the manual to tell us levels to set things. So I am hoping that someone may have some info on float level, jetting, and needle setting, maybe a pdf of the few pages pertaining to float and jet adjustment for this motor. I have been hunting for the book, but am going to order a new one. Just hoping to get it set this weekend. Also any thoughts on what would cause high speed flooding and stalling? we found and fixed a corroded (more like sliced in half by flywheel) wire coming from the stator, and are replacing all spark wires, plugs, coils, fuel lines, filters, and gaskets. hope we can get her running. Any help will be great!
