I have a 1997 Sugar Sand jet boat with a Mercury 175 hp engine block with a hole in it.
I had no idea it would cost a fortune to replace. What other options do I have? If there is a way to repair it or a conversion I have good mechanical skills and fiberglass experience. What is my most cost effective option?

Welcome to iboats

I would say the first thing to do would be find out how the hole got there. It is possible that something else let go and caused the internals to seek the light of day.

Check around you may be able to find a power head that will fit. The sport jets used an outboard power head for the most part.

Good Luck

First get you a manual and remove engine and see what is damaged. That is a 175 2.5 liter engine, the same that is used on outboards. The only difference is the crankshaft as the splines are different. If your block is to badly damaged you could find a used 175 complete and swap cranks if yours is salvagable.
